Viña del Mar, often referred to as simply “Viña,” is most certainly the primary coastal attraction in Chile – and rightfully so. Virtually everything that you’ll encounter along Chile’s coast and in its many beach resorts can be found in one place: Viña. From the wide, white sand beaches to luxury hotels, from oceanfront high-rise apartment buildings, to excellent restaurants, it’s all here. The actual city of Viña del Mar sits just inland, adjacent to the fabulous beach resort. Its turn-of-the-century architecture, grand buildings, and busy shopping district are clean and wellorganized, with a flourishing yearround population. Viña del Mar would definitely stand alone as a great place to live, even sans the resort. Walking among the city streets and parks, you will quickly adapt to the lifestyle.stop at a cafe for cappuccino and pastries, a large mid-day meal (almuerzo) at one of the fine restaurants, and a bit of shopping along the numerous walkways and hidden malls and shops. Perhaps the best part is that, unlike many resort towns, Viña doesn’t close in the winter. So no matter when you chose to come to the resort, the city will always be there, along with anything else you could possibly want.
